Teen Songwriting Program

  • Rotary Centre for The Arts (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This is a five-day program that focuses on songwriting through self expression. We all have ideas and messages to share. Why not do this through a song, either a group collaboration, duo, or solo song.

This program is designed to engage, empower, and connect youth to express their ideas and creativity through the process of songwriting. For all musical levels.

With the support of guest artists, learn and explore basic aspects of songwriting, song arrangements, genre of music and lyrical approach as well as basic stage & sound techniques. At the end of the week, perform and record your masterpieces and share this via the RCA web channels.

Buckman Coe
Roots music with a global world beat. Drawing from Soul, Americana, and Reggae, Buckman Coe's music always seeks to uplift while forwarding messages of togetherness and social justice. He and his band have a dynamic repertoire that can suit theatres as well pack dance-floors. In support of Coe's 4 albums, his band has toured across Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Oregon, and Hawaii.

His recent release Malama Ka ’Aina (2016) – a Hawaiian phrase meaning to respect the land – is a gorgeous fusion of reggae, soul, and world music. With the masterful production by global/electronic artist Adham Shaikh and Jason Kechely, Coe creates ethereal, soul-drenched vocals that soar over arrangements celebrating the awakening of social consciousness and global unity. It was nominated in the Western Canadian Music Awards for World Album of the Year 2016, and was in the top 10 World Charts in College and Community Radio in the USA.
